"I want to do everything! First I want to paint, then I want to plant seeds, then I want to have a coffee, then I want to go on the tip walk!" A very enthusiastic little participant during Saturday's family meeting in Rågsved.
Svenska med baby organized activity days in two Stockholm areas during the weekend, in collaboration with Svenska Bostäder, Familjebostäder and Stockholmshem. The first, as I said, in Rågsved, the second in Rinkeby. Both were well attended! The idea was that both adults and children would have the chance to meet new neighbors, talk about their neighborhood, do fun things together and simply enjoy the common activities.
"It's very nice to meet other families who live near us and whom we haven't met before," said a satisfied father. "Just starting to talk to people you don't know can be difficult, but here it feels natural. And it really gives you a sense of security to get to know more people in the area where you live."
Sara Wallin, Sustainability Manager at Svenska Bostäder, says that they have long offered summer activities for children and young people around their neighborhoods, to give more people the chance to experience a meaningful summer.
"That's why we are now particularly pleased that we were able to offer activities suitable for our youngest tenants".
Jonas Dreyfert, sustainability developer at Stockholmshem, believes that there is great added value for tenants with the weekend's activities.
"By allowing neighbors from different backgrounds to get to know each other through the children, with creativity and language as important tools, we want to contribute to strengthening cohesion, well-being and security."
Elin Sundqvist, security strategist at Familjebostäder, agrees.
"Together with Svenska med Baby, we enable children and parents from different backgrounds to talk and socialize. Togetherness between neighbors is a good basis for safer neighborhoods."
As the activities ended on the first day in Rågsved, balloons were handed out and drawings were put into bags to be taken home, one of the little participants came forward.
"When will you come next time?" he asked eagerly, which was a good testament to today's family reunion.
