Fathers together project

 In 2021, through support from the Swedish Postcode Foundation, and in collaboration with the organization MÄN, Svenska med baby was given the opportunity to develop a new, adapted activity aimed at engaging fathers of young children. In the past, our parenting activities, like other parenting activities nationally, have overwhelmingly engaged mothers with young children from different backgrounds. Thanks to the Postcode Foundation and through current support from Stockholm County Council, Järfälla Municipality and Nacka Municipality, we now have an activity that reaches and engages all parents of young children. During the last two years, we have had more than 1100 participations by fathers and with even more participating children. The fathers come from 71 different countries!

Our fatherhood events, which are offered both on weekdays and weekends, bring fathers from different backgrounds together with their children. They offer free, fun and child-centered activities with thematic discussions. The meetings are aimed at newly arrived, foreign-born and fathers of young children born in Sweden. At the meetings, fathers get to know other fathers and informal learning takes place through conversation and play. The thematic discussions are based on a handbook, developed together with MÄN, and enable a relevant exchange of experiences with a focus on equal parenting.  

This is how we bring together and engage fathers of young children from different backgrounds to create good conditions for all children's right to a safe childhood.
