Thoughts on the importance of preschool

"Preschool is the foundation for learning that continues in school and is the first stown in children's education, so it is important for us that our children go to pre-school."

Nashua Mouiad has four children, three of whom are in preschool. Or rather, the youngest is currently being enrolled. One-year-old Yasin seems to be enjoying himself so far, he is in the same department as his brother and Nashua thinks that makes him feel a little more at home.

Development on many levels

"They develop so much at preschool, for example, I can see in my children how their language has developed a lot and what vocabulary they have accumulated. My soon-to-be 3-year-old son speaks with ease, with long sentences containing difficult words. That makes me happy!"

Through play, she says, they also develop their imagination and strengthen their ability to socialize and cooperate with their friends and learn to resolve conflicts.

Choosing a nursery school

Choosing which preschool to apply to is not the easiest thing. There are many ways to think about it. For Nashua and her husband, it is very important to have good communication, to be informed about how the children's day has been. They have also thought a lot about the focus of the preschool, which has been of great importance when choosing a place.

"At the children's preschool, they cooperate with the outdoor association. They spend a lot of time outdoors and focus on outdoor play and make a lot of trips to the forest and nature."

Even when, like Nashua, you are very happy with how your children are doing, there are always little worries. The kind you can't get away from when you're a parent.

"My children's preschool has been merged with another, due to cuts and there was reorganization among educators. The children got new teachers and I feel how it has affected them. I'm sure it will be fine in a while, when everyone gets to know each other, but you know how parents can be!"

The important learning process

Once you have decided which preschool you want to choose for your child, it is of course important that the child gets a place. And when you have hopefully rejoiced that your child has found a place where you wanted, then the learning process begins! So what do you do when your child starts school to make it as smooth as possible? Nashua has some tips!

Nashua's tips for learning:
  • Practice separation from parents before schooling, for example by leaving the child with grandparents.
  • Get your child used to socializing with others, for example at the open preschool.
  • Bring something the child is used to having when they are sad, such as a blanket or a cuddly toy.
  • Tell the staff about your child's habits and what makes them happy when they are sad.
