Fatherhood meetings

During the fathers' meetings, you will have the opportunity to participate in fun and free activities with your child. You can also talk to other fathers about different topics. The meetings are aimed at both newly arrived fathers and fathers born in Sweden and those who have lived here for a long time. All children up to the age of five are welcome.

Here's how the meetings work

The meetings last 1.5-2 hours and are led by our dedicated father ambassadors who are trained in holding father meetings. We always have coffee, do fun things with the children, talk and exchange experiences about parenting, among other things. Every week we have a theme. It is also an excellent opportunity to practice speaking Swedish for those who need to. You come to the meetings that suit you and your child.

The purpose of our dad meetings

As with all Svenska med baby meetings, the aim is for people to meet, share experiences and have fun with their children.

We know from experience that it is easier for fathers to come to meetings if they know they will not be the only father. During these meetings, we talk about different topics, such as what fatherhood means, how your relationship has changed since you had children or how today's fatherhood differs from the one you grew up with. A common thread through all meetings is gender equality. Gender equality is of course important for both parents, but it is also very important for the child. The presence of the father as an active parent is of great importance for the child's development.

An active father also allows the mother to have more time for herself and, with it, an opportunity to explore what she will do after parental leave.

A new report:
FATHERS TO FATHERS

Svenska med baby is proud to present our new report on the parenting of newly arrived fathers and their important role in the lives of their children and in society. In the report, we meet four committed fathers from different backgrounds.

Despite 50 years of parental insurance, including dedicated parental leave for fathers, and other policy initiatives, we are still far from equal parenting. Unequal parenting has direct consequences for women's opportunities in the labor market.

Anna Sarkadi, professor of social medicine at Uppsala University, emphasizes in the report that fathers' involvement is crucial for children's development: "It is strange that we do not make greater efforts to include fathers more in parenting."

Read the report for key insights and suggestions to strengthen the role of fathers in parenting - a fundamental part of creating a more equal society.

Questions and answers on daddy meetings

They are similar to each other, except that only fathers come to the father meetings, of course. And then slightly older children can come to the meetings, up to five years. At the parents' meetings, there are children up to 5 years old. The father meetings address topics related to the role of fathers.

The father ambassadors have several tasks, they must find and engage the fathers of young children in the area, through physical and digital marketing. They will plan and organize the meetings themselves. They are also responsible for the work after the meetings, with the compilation of surveys and reporting. They are also involved in developing methods to continuously improve the work with fathers from different backgrounds. It is a paid position of trust.

All three of you are welcome! Our activities are adapted for children up to five years old, but if there are older children, we do our best to also find something that they think is fun!

No, moms are not welcome to the dad meetings. If you want to come together with the whole family, there are our family meetings, where everyone is welcome! The reason it's only fathers is because each meeting usually includes discussions about the role of fathers.

You decide how many meetings you want to attend!

Most of our participants are mothers. And we know that mothers often take the greatest responsibility for children. That's why we think it's important to have special sessions for fathers. Fathers find it easier to come to these sessions because they know they won't be the only father.

It's so incredibly numerous and varied that it's not really possible to answer. Last year, we had participants who spoke 82 different languages at the daddy meetings.
